Royal Holloway College was founded in 1886 by Victorian entrepreneur, Thomas Holloway, - a patent medicine manufacturer, as one of the first colleges for the higher education of bright young women.

Today, Royal Holloway is one of the eight largest colleges of the University of London with a diverse population of 7,000 students and turnover of circa £80m. The College enjoys an international reputation for the highest quality research and teaching and its academic activities are organised within 21 departments in 3 faculties: Science, Arts and Social Science.

The Financial Times ranked Royal Holloway 9th in the most recent national assessment of research quality and it is one of only ten university institutions across the country whose departments all earned the top three ratings for research with scores of 4, 5 and 5*.

Royal Holloway access to research expertise and its strategic location has led to many entrepreneurial alliances and the College has strong links with London and the regional business community. Enterprise Hub activities are promoted as the central element of engagement with the regional enterprise agenda

Faculties are encouraged to identify major research projects suitable for external support and to target prospective partners in both the public and private sectors.

The College also seeks to promote entrepreneurship and innovation via knowledge transfer activities including consultancy, commercialisation, short courses and continuous professional development
